It's all about the hair

Recently I was reading an article in a magazine about the new technology for hair dryers. This is exciting news for anyone with a roommate or just hates the loud noise of hair dryers. Hair dryers like the Cricket q-zone dryer and the Velecta Paramount xq dryer are QUIET. I am just loving this feature especially because you can't dry your hair if your roommate is taking a nap or sleeping but now you can! There are a lot of salons who now only use quiet hair dryers to make the salon experience even better! I know my salon just switched to these recently and it is such a better experience without all of the noise coming from the hairdryers. Do you own a quiet hair dryer? Do you love it? Have a fabulous day!

Parents are a Blessing

"You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith because you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you love me"

I think when you are young, you don't fully appreciate your parents. Ever since I went to college, I have realized that I have the most amazing parents in the entire world. I am such a lucky and blessed girl to live the life that I do and it is all because of my parents. They have supported me through absolutely everything. I am proud of who I am today and it is all because of them. I have achieved so many accomplishments in my life, and none of them would have been possible without the help from my parents. They encourage me to be the best I can be. They teach me right from wrong, and teach me how to be a classy, mature, responsible, smart woman. They are the reason I am able to attend college and be in an amazing sorority. I would be nothing without them. So this post is dedicated to my role models: my parents. So mom and dad if you are reading this, thank you for all that you have done, I love you very much.

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

I think in any home mirrors are a great way to dress up your space. Mirrors actually make the room appear bigger, and they are also a great alternative from other forms of wall art. My grandparents own a large convex eagle regency mirror(the above picture was found through google images and is similar to my grandparents mirror). Ever since I was a child I have admired that mirror. The mirror is so intricate. Each raised circle around the mirror is supposed to represent the 13 original colonies. After doing a bit of research, this mirror is a federalist style and was first designed around the late 1700's through the early 1800's. I was reminded of my love for intricate and interesting mirrors when I was at the Omni hotel in Charlotte this past weekend. They had beautiful mirrors all around the hotel. Here are a few I've found on several home websites that I just love!Pottery Barn Hoffman Mirror

Pottery Barn Isabelle Mirror

Potter Barn Teen Mirrored Wall Letters-- I love love love this Idea for a powder room. You could hang your last initial behind the commode for an elegant and personalized touch. I also think these lettered mirrors would work so well in a newborn's nursery!

Do you have any amazing mirrors in your home that you are just in love with? I'd love to know! Have a fabulous day!

sCe

Outfit of the Day

Sorry for the bad picture quality, my camera has been acting very goofy lately, I think it might be time for a new one; this one has had too many G&T's.
I am loving this Lands End Ruffle collar polo. I got it for my birthday and I just ordered several other colors (coral, black and navy) because I love it so much. The fit is somewhat roomy. I own a small, but ordered the other 3 colors in XS because I wanted a more snug fit. The ruffle detailing on the collar is adorable and the shirt is so well made! My seer sucker capris are from AT Loft, watch is Klaus Kobec, flip flops are L.L. Bean, and flamingo headband is Talbots. Have a fabulous day!

Southern Hospitality

I have to say that I had an absolutely fabulous weekend in Charlotte, NC. It was filled with good food, great atmosphere, and wonderful company. Downtown Charlotte was so pretty and very very clean! We stayed at the Omni hotel which was nice. The concierge was very knowledgeable as well as the front desk. The room was well lit, large, and the beds were comfortable which made for a great stay. Weather wise we also were very lucky; it was sunny and warm the entire time we were there which made Saturday great for lounging at the pool. The formal itself was wonderful. No detail was overlooked which is surprising since men were the organizers of the weekend; I was without a doubt very impressed. Here are some pictures from my fabulous weekend. Enjoy! The room had a great view. Each night around nine we were able to look out our window and see a small brass band playing on the corner, it was so great! This is a picture of my date and I from Friday night after dinner. A few of us were touring the city and we found an adorable little alcove with a fountain which was so cute! I also tried the romper/jumper trend and I do have to say that it isn't my style but it was so comfortable! It was dressy enough for dinner because the fabric had a satin finish with a textured pattern. I made it more 'my style' by added pearl studs, pearl necklace and my JR's. I got many compliments and although owning one romper is plenty for me, I know I will get a lot of wear out of it.K, C, N, and I lounging by the pool. Having my sorority sisters there added even more fun to the weekend. We loved soaking up the sun together. My date bBf and I before dinner. I completed my Calvin Klein frock with a double strand of pearls, pearl studs, gold and diamond ring, and black pumps. I loved my dress!
With my lovely sorority sisters again. They all looked so pretty too! My dress was actually a floor length gown when I purchased it but since I wore a gown to my formal with bBf, I thought I'd change it up. So, I had the bottom hemmed and just loved it!
I hope you all had as fabulous of a weekend as I did. Have a great day!

sCe

Headed down south!

I am headed to Charlotte, NC for the weekend to attend a fraternity formal! I am so excited! We are staying the entire weekend in the Omni hotel which looks fabulous. A lot of my sorority sisters were asked as well so it should be great. What a great way to end my birthday week! Friday we are going to go out for dinner and drinks and then on Saturday we are going to sight see. I have never been to Charlotte so this is a real treat! I have adorable outfits planned so I'll be sure to share them with you all once I return to Virginia. I am so excited for my dress. It is short this time since I wore a gown to my formal. It's made by Calvin Klein and it's a champagne/nude color! I can't wait to post pictures.

These are just 2 pictures of the hotel I found online, but it looks beautiful. Have any of you ever stayed there? Do you have any recomendations on fun things to do in Charlotte? TONIGHT is Greek Sing to cap off Greek Week. We have been preparing for months and working so hard, so hopefully ZTA brings home a win!! Wish me luck! Have a fabulous day!

My weekend was fabulous! aMe, dLn, lMe, and I all went to Fair Oaks mall where we went into many different stores. I didn't see too much that I was in love with, but left with my favorite Sephora brand concealer that I wrote a post on a while back. Then we headed to the Leesburg outlets! There were so many stores! There was a Saks off Fifth, Kate Spade, J.Crew, Barney's, Ralph Lauren, and Burberry! We had dinner at a cute little restaurant called "Not your average Joe's" which was delicious! I had a hamburger with avocado, yum! Zeta day was a success. We won so many awards and it was so fun to spend a day with my sisters and meet other Zetas from other colleges. We won crown chapter which is a very big deal, so we were all so excited! Here is a picture of our president and I holding just two of our awards:We were so very proud! I just loved the bow in my hair. I bought several of them this weekend in hot pink, pastel pink, white, and black! They are a barrette bow and keep the hair out of my face but still look adorable! Here's another picture of my with the bow:
I can't wait to wear the others in my hair this week! I hope you all have a fabulous day! I can't wait for tomorrow because it is my 20th Birthday!!!!

Outfit of the weekend

Here is one outfit I wore this past weekend! The patchwork shorts and yellow sleeveless polo are both from Brooks Brothers. Bow from a boutique in Pittsburgh, and flip flops from J.Crew several years ago. My Watch is a Klaus Kobec that I just love and haven't had a chance to wear in so long! Sorry for the poor picture quality, this was taken with my blackberry. Have a fabulous day.

Coveted Dessert Plates

This past Easter weekend, I went home first and foremost to celebrate Easter with family but also to celebrate my birthday (2 weeks early) with family. While having the most delicious ice cream cake (a request that is usually not made by me but I saw one on TV and knew I had to have one!) I saw my mom bring out dessert plates that she does not bring out too often. Every time I see them, I am so envious that I do not own dessert plates as pretty and unique as these plates are. However, I should not be so envious because I live in a sorority house and would have no use for a set of gorgeous dessert plates... Oh, but someday I will have a pretty little home all to myself, and I am on a mission to make those plates mine! So here is a picture I snapped while I was home of the famed dessert plates:Aren't they just too cute? Perfect for spring, fall, and winter!
While I was also at home I became even more envious of a new Rugby polo my father was sporting. It was green with a pink rugby player on the left chest and his initials were stitched right underneath. Pink, green, and monogrammed and I don't have one?! How could this be! I know what my next order from the RL Rugby store is going to be..Not the greatest photography skills, but you get the picture. It won't be too weird that my dad and I have the same shirt...right?
As for this weekend, I am headed off to "NOVA" as they call it here in Virginia. I didn't know what that meant when I was headed south for school, so for all you northerners like me, NOVA stands for Norther Virginia. Pretty clever, huh? I plan on shopping until I drop. Oh yes and I guess I will have to attend my sorority convention as well. Pictures and shopping news is sure to follow next week! And coming up will be a blog post on my trip to Charlotte next weekend for a fraternity formal. It is sure to be a very very fun weekend. Next week will be a very fun week as Wednesday is my 20th birthday!!! I cannot wait to celebrate with friends at a delicious sushi restaurant! My birthday week also happens to be Greek Week too, so I have a lot of great things to look forward to!! Have a fabulous weekend!

sCe

Kate Spade never fails me

When I'm bored (which unfortunately hasn't been happening very often recently) I never sit down and watch T.V.. I usually grab the latest issue of Town and Country, catch up on reading blogs, or my favorite: Online shop. Most of the time it's more like "window shopping" but every once in a while, I spend my very small college budget on something that I just have to have. I usually try to stay away from Kate Spade for as long as I can because they ALWAYS have something that I fall in love with and for weeks, I dream about all the beautiful things KS has. Well, this week I was bored and let go of my self control and headed on over to Katespade.com. Of course I found so many things to tickle my fancy but I just love these two beauties:I can't help but be in love with this necklace for two reasons. The first is pearls. I just love them and can't seem to get enough. I love the double strand and the single strand in the back. The second reason I love this necklace so much is because there are two little gold bows. I used to be a strictly silver girl. I stuck to Tiffany's and not much else. Well, recently I've opened up my taste to gold and I can't get enough. It doesn't help the fact that the bows are just adorable as well! This little beauty can be yours for $145.I am obsessed with the Kate Spade and Lenox collaboration entitled "Sag Harbor". Now of course this would be a very silly thing for me to purchase considering I don't have a home to myself, but if I did, 8 of these plates would be in my shopping cart. I think they would be absolutely perfect for outdoor dining whether at the beach or lake. I love the clean nautical vibe that the whole Sag Harbor line gives off.
The navy is my favorite! the polk-a-dots are so cute!

Do you fall in love with all things Kate Spade when you check out the website? I'm headed to Northern Virginia this weekend for a sorority function and my sisters and I are stopping at some outlets which I'm super excited about. Rumor has it, there is a Kate Spade! Have a fabulous day!

Twitter!

I have finally succumbed to Twitter. I didn't want to, but I wanted to follow people so I created an account and figured, hey why not just use my account. So here is the birth of SummerWind41490 on Twitter. I used the name Lilly Sinatra as my name (although of course that is NOT my real name). Sharing too much information on the internet gives me the creeps, hence why you all do not know my real name, and my twitter account won't include my real name either! But feel free to follow me on Twitter.. or give me a few tips!! Have a fabulous day!

Warm Weather Brings Good Gatherings..

With the warm weather finally coming around, I can't help but love having social gatherings on outdoor patios. Whether it be the patio at the country club that I absolutely adore, or the patio right outside of my backdoor, I can't help but love entertaining outside. I am a subscriber to Architectural Digest magazine and they have some pretty incredible outdoor spaces which always inspire me to do little things outback! I love outdoor fireplaces, and outdoor dining, so here are some beautiful pictures I found through Google Images that I just love! (None of these pictures are mine) I also have fun tips to have a successful outdoor entertaining experience. The twinkle lights on the trellis add for a nice romantic, cozy atmosphere. I also love the lamp. People often don't think to have a lamp outside for lighting, but I think it adds a nice, soft lighting.
Several years ago I stayed at the Chesapeake Hyatt Resort and they had an amazing outdoor fireplace. For some reason I cannot find a picture of it in my picture folder, but the fireplace above is like a mini version of the one at the Hyatt. Outdoor fireplaces add a touch of coziness, and are perfect for warming up during the spring or fall months. Speaking of the Hyatt at the Chesapeake Bay, if you are looking for a great weekend getaway, then that is the place! It is such a cute little area and the resort is so pretty (pictured below).Lighting is an important aspect in outdoor entertaining. Once the sun sets, you need lighting that will still be enough to entertain. I personally love the twinkle lights, but don't go overboard. Too many make the area look tacky. I also like plain clear votives with white candles. This makes the atmosphere seem clean and simple. Along with the twinkle lights and candles, add a few citronella torches around the outskirts of your patio. That adds a nice fire-y ambiance and also keeps the bugs away.
I hope this post inspired you to go out and have an outdoor get-together in the coming warm months! What are your favorite outdoor dining tips? have a fabulous day!

sCe
